A new public sector pay deal has been approved in principle and will see public sector workers receiving salary increases of 10.25% over a two-and-a-half year period.

The new pay deal will impact around 385,000 public servants including nurses, doctors, gardaí and teachers.
The key details are as follows:

  • A pay increase of 2.25% or €1,125, whichever is greater, backdated to 1 January 2024
  • A 1% increase on 1 June 2024
  • A further 1% increase or €500, whichever is greater, on 1 October 2024.
  • A 2% increase from 1 March 2025
  • A 1% increase from 1 August 2025.
  • A 1% increase from 1 February 2026 public servants
  • A final 1% taking effect on 1 June 2026.

Local bargaining terms will also allow trade unions to negotiate up to an additional 3% of pay costs, inclusive of allowances, for particular grades, groups or categories of employee. Further details on the local bargaining terms are to be agreed no later than 30th June 2024 with local negotiations to take place between July 2024 and June 2025.

Unions are making arrangements to ballot their members on the new pay deal which is expected to be formally accepted later in 2024.
